That said, it was Grey Cup Sunday (think Super Bowl Sunday, but Canadian). The Saskatchewan Roughriders versus the Montreal Alouettes. Saskatchewan were the underdogs coming into the match.
The Riders were up by 14 points at half time. In the last few minutes of the 4th quarter, the Riders were up by 2 points.
Montreal managed to get the ball within field goal range with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. The Alouettes kick the ball for the field goal - it goes wide! But wait! Flag on the play.
Too many men on the field. Saskatchewan. 10 yard penalty. Montreal gets a second chance (a 33 yard field goal). It's good.
Final score: Montreal 28 - Saskatchewan 27.
We lost because the Rider coaching staff have problems counting to 12. Granted, we like to think that we have 13 players on the field - but that 13th player is actually the Rider fan base, not actually an extra player! Grrr...
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the lamest way to lose a championship game.
